SACP has embraced reactionary policies - NUMSA Mpumalanga

Union responds to Party PWC's venomous attack on GS Irvin Jim

NUMSA RESPONDS TO THE SACP STATEMENT

September 05, 2013

The Mpumalanga National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) notes the venomous and poisonous statement issued by the Provincial Working Committee (PWC) of the vanguard party of the working class, the South Africa Communist Party (SACP) Mpumalanga province.

It is very strange that our tenants chose to use the media as a Hotline to launch a political offensive against Numsa, particularly against our General Secretary comrade Irvin Jim. We do not know how these personalized attacks littered with malice directed towards a very key organ of the working class such as Numsa, and its leadership collective is going to advance and take forward the SACP's political programme of building a Socialist South Africa.

These attacks are not surprising to us, purely because the SACP has assumed a posture of embracing reactionary policies, such as the National Development Plan (NDP), which are not consistent with the Freedom Charter and our struggle to build Socialism.

The PWC's statement has confirmed that the SACP views or characterizes Numsa, as an imperialist agent or force. Surprisingly this characterization is similar and it's being shared by other divisive forces within Cosatu, who happen to be beneficiaries of political patronage being dispensed by the SACP through CC and PolitBuro (PB) leadership positions.

The SACP has concluded that it shall do in all its power to isolate Numsa within Cosatu and unleash a project to ensure that the Numsa membership has no confidence in the Numsa elected National Office Bearers (NOBs'), National Executive Committee (NEC) and Central Committee (CC), as promised to us in the Popcru Political School. Frankly speaking, what the SACP is trying to do amounts to a call on Numsa members to overthrow its leadership. This divisive political strategy to liquidate and fragment workers organisations, particularly Numsa and Cosatu shall be exposed and be defeated by the workers on the ground.

As Numsa Mpumalanga we must confirm that we will not allow any reactionary force, including the SACP to destabilize our Union without a fight.

As promised in an earlier Numsa press conference held by our National Office Bearers (NOBs") on 30 August 2013, Numsa shall in due course release a detailed analysis of the consistent and sustained attack by the SACP, ANC and some within Cosatu on Numsa through a working class analysis and spectacles.

Statement issued by Eric Linda, NUMSA Mpumalanga Regional Secretary, September 5 2013
