SACP pays tribute to Jackie Selebi

Party says it will always remember the role played by the fallen hero in the liberation struggle and post-1994

Passing On of Former National Police Commissioner Cde Jackie Selebi

The SACP joins millions of South Africans and the world on paying tribute to the family and friends of Cde Jackie Selebi who passed-on yesterday on Friday, January 23, 2015. Cde Selebi played an important role on the repatriation of liberation exiles back to the country in the early 90's, which included amongst others members of the ANC and those of the South African Communist Party.

He further played an important role when he was a permanent representative of South Africa in the United Nations in Geneva from 1995 who saw him receiving the International Service for Human Rights Award for his chairing of the 54th session of the UN Commission on Human Rights in 1998.

We also saw him making further contributions when he took over as the Director General of Foreign Affairs in 1999, a post he vacated when he became the National Police Commissioner in the year 2000.

The 13th Congress Central Committee on-behalf of over 210 000 members of the South African Communist Party would like to send condolences to the wife cde Anne, the family and all relatives and friends. We will always remember the role that was played by the fallen hero in the liberation struggle and also the post-1994 period.

Rest in peace, Cde Jackie Selebi.
