SAMWU to intensify call for economic freedom in 2013

Union says working class facing an onslaught by capitalism and the ruling elite

SAMWU to intensify all campaigns in 2013

We are approaching the end of yet another year, one that has brought the South African Municipal Workers Union successes and challenges.

When we look back on 2012, we can certainly count our successes registered in the Local Government Sector. We will ensure that in 2013 our efforts are redoubled and we are at the very top of our game.

The working class in this country and abroad are facing an onslaught by Capitalism and the ruling elite. We will use the December holidays to energise ourselves in readiness for next year, where mammoth battles will be both won and lost.

This Union and its members will continue to intensify calls for the economic freedom of the working class. The transformation of the economy will be central to all our efforts, as we move to create decent work and try to eradicate poverty.

At the core of SAMWU is the Unions personal commitment to its members; as we welcome the New Year, we affirm our collective dedication organising and servicing our members to the best of our ability. Together, we shall continue to build a strong Municipal Workers Union to ensure the emancipation of the working class from poverty, unemployment and inequality.

The successes we registered would never have been possible without the Unions staff in the provinces, head offices and regional offices, who work tirelessly to ensure the organization is always at the fore front of worker related issues.

Lastly, the Union would like to congratulate the African National Congress on the hosting of a successful 53rd National Conference and electing its leaders under the leadership of comrade Jacob Zuma. We commit to working closely with the newly elected leaders and the ANC as the leader of the Tripartite Alliance. The challenges facing the working class and poor are many and so the Union will be looking to the ANC to put the triple crisis of poverty, unemployment and inequality at the centre of all policies which must to be promptly implemented.

ALUTA CONTINUA! (The struggle continues!)
