SAPS must refrain from entering political terrain – EFF Gauteng

Fighters condemn raid on its Provincial Secretary, Moshe Koma, at around 05:30 am this morning

EFF Gauteng statement on the raiding of the house of Provincial Secretary Moshe Koma in the early hours of the national shutdown

20 March 2023

The Economic Freedom Fighters Gauteng condemns in the strongest possible terms the illegal raiding and searching of the house of Provincial Secretary, Moshe Koma by the Police around 05:30 am this morning.

The South African Police Services( SAPS) illegally raided the Provincial Secretary's house, searched, and intimidated his family, with claims that he is running an illegal operation that involves guns in his home; after this illegal search no guns or anything incriminating was found.

This is a clear infringement of the right to privacy and intimidation by the law enforcement officers. This failed attempt to intimidate the leadership of the EFF on the day of a peaceful national shutdown is a clear sign of a repressive and dictatorial state.

Moreover it is an attempt to provoke the leadership of the EFF with an aim to defocus us from the task at hand.

The EFF has successfully begun the national shutdown calling for the resignation of Cyril Ramaphosa as president and an end to load shedding. To this hour, all strategic roads, business centres, government institutions and life as we know has been disrupted across the country. Which is exactly what the EFF had aimed to achieve.

If anything, this has also proven to us that the state has all the capacity to provide basic services such as undisturbed electricity supply and combating crime. That it is lack of political will and rampant corruption by the government of the ANC that has stood in the way of progress in this country.

The EFF warns the SAPS to refrain from entering the political terrain and refuse to be used as a tool to fight political battles in defence of an illegitimate president. When the time is right, the EFF will take the necessary steps in response to this despicable activity.

We call on fighters, community activists, progressive formations and the society at large to remain steadfast and unwavering in their justified call for Ramaphosa to vacate office.
