SASFU opposed to Malema's attempt to exploit grievances of soliders

Union says the situation in the SANDF is very bad though, and it has not been addressed

PRESS STATEMENT ON JULIUS MALEMA AND THE SANDF MEMBERS

We have learned that Julius Malema will be addressing soldiers in Lenasia, Johannesburg. As SASFU we are opposed to any opportunism by Malema and the so called Friends of the Youth League in exploiting the vulnerability of the soldiers. We know that the situation in the SANDF is very bad and that the military and political leadership has failed to address it. The only mouth piece which is the Military Unions have been frustrated and members are suspended, expelled and in some instances driven to commit suicide.

However we want to point out that when soldiers marched to Union buildings on 26 August 2009, it is the very same Malema that said soldiers were out of order and that they should not be unionised.  We also know that Malema and the so called FYL are working very hard to sponsor an unrest which is going to mimic the situation as it happened in the Arab countries like Libya and Syria.

We therefore call upon the soldiers to be vigilant and not allow to be used by people who will not solve their plight. At the same time we want to send a warning to the political leadership to stop ignoring the plight of the soldiers and understand that the military leadership is demoralising the soldiers on daily basis.

Let us all work together to make the SANDF a disciplined and patriotic organisation.
