Statement of the Congress Working Committee - 18 October 2010

The National Office Bearers of COPE meeting today in its regular fortnightly meeting, took the following decisions:

1. The Chief Whip, having filed with Parliament a declaration purported to be confirmed by an auditor that was in fact not, that the requisite financial systems were in place to manage the moneys given the party by Parliament, decided to remove Mr. Mbhazima Shilowa as Chief Whip of the party in Parliament and as the Accounting Officer.

2. The Administrative Whip and Liaison with Parliament, Ms. Lolo Mashiane, having refused to cooperate with the forensic audit being conducted by KPMG, also be removed from her positions.

3. To appoint Mr. Tozamile Botha as Acting Chief Whip and Accounting Officer and Ms. Julie Killian, who is the party House Whip, to act as Administrative Whip and Liaison with Parliament.
