Solidarity welcomes the arrest of Matshela Koko, his wife Mosima and his stepdaughter Koketso Choma due to alleged corruption at Eskom. These arrests follow after Solidarity filed criminal charges against Koko and others at the Brooklyn police station earlier this year.
Solidarity says that although these arrests are positive, South African citizens now also deserve immediate action from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) as well as further action against the other alleged state capturers who appear in Solidarity’s criminal complaint.
"The absolute injustice of years of corruption and theft can no longer continue due to an infinite delay on the part of our criminal justice system. These matters must be taken further. Although these arrests are a promising step in the right direction, there must be continuous pressure on our authorities to do their job, and any further dragging of feet will not be tolerated," explains Dr Dirk Hermann, Chief Executive of Solidarity.
"State capturers have stolen workers' jobs and futures as well as taxpayers' hard-earned money. We cannot allow workers' jobs and money to be stolen and looters to walk free with all the money. It is our duty to help prosecute state capturers on behalf of our members," concludes Hermann.
