Solidarity's allegations over air traffic control unfounded - ATNS

Organisation assures the general public/passengers that at no stage were their lives and/or safety compromised

ALLEGATIONS AGAINST ATNS UNFOUNDED AND WITHOUT SUBSTANCE

Johannesburg, South Africa. Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) SOC is shocked and dismayed by recent reports in certain sections of the media - of unfair and unjust labour practices, regarding alleged poor handling of internal aviation safety transgressions, as well as lack of professionalism and apparent disregard for safety - attributed to the company.

ATNS is in no position to discuss the merits of internal disciplinary processes - currently underway - against Mr. Johnny Smit and Mr. Leon Altree. Even if we had an iota of desire to do so - due to specific issues raised in a press release as distributed, the "sub judice" rule applies. We would like to believe that the issuing authority (Solidarity) is well-informed on this principle of law. We can nonetheless confirm that the two individuals are facing very serious allegations - which might lead to their dismissal.

We'd like to put it on record that all aviation-related safety incidents are reported to and investigated by the SACAA and only the SACAA can make pronouncements on that. We would also like to assure the general public/passengers that at no stage were their lives and/or safety compromised.

As and when the situation permits, that is after the conclusion of the afore-mentioned disciplinary process against Messrs. Smit and Altree, ATNS will be in a position to comment on any matter that may need clarity. This will be in the best interest of all our stakeholders, who include the flying public, among others.

ATNS is of the view that the afore-mentioned allegations - which are unfounded and without substance - are meant to distract attention from the real issue (which is the disciplinary process), as well as besmirching the good name of the company.
