DA welcomes Chairperson's ruling on derogatory racial language
19 June 2014
This evening, Chairperson, Thandi Modise, ruled that Minister of Human Settlements, Lindiwe Sisulu's , insults in the National Assembly yesterday referring to me as a "hired native" were in fact unparliamentary.
We welcome Minister Sisulu's decision to withdraw her remarks.
Minister Sisulu made a mockery of our country's divided history and we'd advise her and the ANC to contribute to reconciliation by ceasing this racist rhetoric.
Parliament must remain a place of vigourous and stimulating debate. Remarks like Minister Sisulu's clearly have no place in such an institution and certainly none a democratic South Africa.
