Three toilets for 398 learners at Reoleboge Special School a health risk

The DA calls on the North West Provincial Government to urgently intervene and solve the sanitation crisis at the Reoleboge Special School. 398 learners and staff have only three toilets to share at this school. The 240 boys share two toilets with the male staff and 158 girls and female staff have access to only one toilet. 

I will submit written questions to the MEC for Public Works and Roads in the North West, Madoda Sambatha, to inquire whether his department plans to build more flush toilets at the school. I will also submit written questions to the Health MEC, Dr Magome Masike, to determine whether there have been any incidents of disease outbreak or other health complications at the school.  

These alarming conditions came to light during an oversight visit to the Bojanala District last week and are a serious cause for concern. The DA believes the current situation poses a serious health risk to both the learners and teachers.  

The Reoleboge Special School must be capacitated to fulfil its role as a safe learning environment for young children in need of special support. The DA will investigate the matter to discover why the current situation has been allowed to continue. We will ensure that that adequate sanitation is delivered to the learners at the school.
