Two 23-year-olds arrested for attack on Dali Mpofu - SAPS

Police manage to recover weapon, as well as the cellular phone stolen during advocate's mugging in East London

Police nab two suspects for the attack of Adv Dali Mpofu

The South African Police Service confirms that two 23-year-old suspects have been arrested in Cambridge, East London, on 14 May 2013.  The arrest follows an investigation into the incident where Adv Dali Mpofu was stabbed and robbed of valuable items.

The police managed to recover the weapon (which was allegedly used in the attack), as well as the cellular phone that had been stolen.

During the arrest, the police discovered that both suspects were out on bail of R500, 00 each for a robbery that they had committed in October 2012 where a tourist and a police reservist were robbed of their cellular phones. The two were due to appear in the East London Magistrates' Court on 24 May 2013.

Regarding the incident involving Adv Dali Mpofu, the suspects will appear in the East London Magistrates' Court on Friday, 17 May 2013, where they will face charges of assault GBH and robbery. The SAPS will oppose bail.

The SAPS further urges members of the community to remain vigilant and continue to report criminal activities to the police.
