Water crisis deepens while Rand Water sits on their hands – DA Gauteng

Water crisis in Gauteng deepens while Rand Water sits on their hands

13 March 2023

The Democratic Alliance (DA) and residents in Gauteng are equally frustrated and angry following yet another breakdown at the Rand Water Vereeniging purification plant on Saturday.

As a result, Joburg Water has had to reduce its water supply to many suburbs. The areas affected during the latest round of water outages are the following:

Honeydew

Linden

Riverlea

Florida

Constantia

Helderkruin

Witpoortjie

Parts of Soweto

Residents in these areas have had their water supply reduced by 50%. It is unacceptable that the lack of proactive maintenance can leave residents battling to receive water.

Urgent intervention is needed at Rand Water at the highest level before this State-Owned Entity turns into another Eskom.

The DA is once again proposing that an inter-governmental task team is set up so that plans can be urgently put in place to deal with this water crisis.

Our residents deserve a government that puts their needs first and makes sure that they get the service delivery they are entitled to.
