ANOTHER REASON TO FIRE MMEMEZI
The shocking revelation in today's media that Gauteng Local Government and Housing MEC, Humphrey Mmemezi, diverted R7.8 million that was specifically allocated for housing to install CCTV cameras at his office is another reason for him to be fired (see report).
Mmemezi's brazen disregard for tax payers' money is sufficient cause for Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane, to institute a comprehensive audit into the financial management of his department.
About 136 families could have been housed if he had not used this money on a wasteful security measure for his own office.
It is outrageous to pay so much money for office cameras because of his security paranoia and witch hunt against staff he suspects have leaked damaging information. We suspect these cameras are used to spy on his own staff.
Mmemezi makes use of the funds in his department like a piggy bank, as when he controversially bought a R10 000 painting through a McDonald's outlet and also purchased personal groceries with his government credit card.
