Zille strangling herself - Pierre Uys

ANC WCape chief whip says DA leader has presented too many versions of the donation received at the Gupta house

ANC to ask for Zille's impeachment?

DA leader Helen Zille is strangling herself with the versions she fabricates to explain her taking money at the Gupta residence!

"Zille must now come clean and say exactly who she took the donations from and what form of payment(s) it was. Was it a cheque, cash or electronic transfer she received," says ANC chief whip in the Western Cape provincial legislature Pierre Uys.

Zille has presented too many conflicting versions of the facts which are publicly disputed. It seems as if she is misleading the public to save face. This warrants a full investigation into all her attempts to cover-up and breaking her pledge of trust with the public, says the ANC.

"In her attempts to justify her actions and lame excuses, she went out of her way to besmirch the reputation of others, making them out as liars and twisting facts that she could justify and redeem herself. This includes the Guptas.

"The pressing question is: Did she lie at any stage in the present dispute over the Business Briefing? If she did not, then she must come clean and fully disclose the facts of her dealings with the Guptas. Otherwise the attributed epithet ‘hypocrite' may stick.

"There is no room left for any more mincing of words as it is now her very own reputation on the line! If she fails to clear the matter up, the ANC will have no other choice but to ask for her impeachment and a full investigation into all the controversial dealing she glossed over to distance herself from any responsibility and/or failure in order to give the true facts," says Uys.

The other questions (beside who she took the money from and in what form she received it) that need to be answered is:

  • Did she know the TNA breakfast she attended in February 2012 was sponsored by Telkom - a public entity?
  • Did she know the various donations she accepted were indeed Gupta money?
  • Why does she deny the conflict of interest in her own department with relation to the controversial communication tender and a former employee of a TBWA\ Hunt Lascaris subsidiary (Yellowwood) Carol Avenant that is now the chairperson of the bid evaluation committee in the Department of the Premier that extended the contract; as well as another DA politician Nick Clelland-Stokes who heads communications and supported the contract extension.
