Presidency on incorrect reporting on IEC appointment

The Presidency yesterday, 23 April 2015, announced that President Jacob Zuma had appointed Mr Glen Mashinini as a member of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) with effect from 1 May 2015.

The majority of media houses have reported that Mr Mashinini has been appointed as the "head, chief or chairperson"‎ of the IEC, which was not contained in the statement and is incorrect.

President Zuma has not yet appointed a Chairperson for the IEC. Mr Mashinini will join the body as an ordinary Commissioner or member on 1 May 2015.

We request media houses to correct their reports.
