Shaun Christie: Application for legal representation granted – AfriForum Youth

Organisation says it can now help ensure that student’s rights are optimally protected during the process

Shaun Christie: Application for legal representation granted, hearing postponed

29 February 2024

Shaun Christie, the senior student from North West University (NWU) who was temporarily suspended earlier this month following his public objection to the content of a session at an orientation event, has today been granted legal representation in his disciplinary hearing. AfriForum Youth’s legal team is assisting Christie in the case and will now also represent him during the hearing.

The hearing kicked off this morning, but due to the approval for legal representation and the complexity of the case, it has now been postponed until Tuesday, 12 March.

According to Ronald Peters, AfriForum Youth Manager, AfriForum Youth is satisfied with the approval given today. “Today’s proceedings were limited to this important request, but now that it has been granted, we can help ensure that Christie’s rights are optimally protected during this process,” says Peters.
