RESIGNATION OF IFP TREASURER-GENERAL
IFP Secretary-General, Rev Musa Zondi, today announced that the IFP Treasurer-General, Mr Alex Hamilton, yesterday tendered his resignation as the IFP's Treasurer-General and has appointed Mr Narend Singh in his place.
Rev Zondi said, "The IFP's longstanding Treasurer-General, Mr Alex Hamilton, yesterday tendered his resignation at the Party's weekly National Executive Committee meeting stating that he felt that after eleven and a half years it was time for a new approach in the important post of Treasurer-General of the Party with the forthcoming local government elections looming and by resigning at this stage will give the new Treasurer-General ample time to orientate himself."
"Mr Hamilton joined the IFP in 1992 and in his own words yesterday said that 'he joined the Party because of the principles, leadership and the outstanding contribution of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi towards liberation in 1994 which in his view wouldn't have been an easy transition without Prince Buthelezi whom he met at the age of 27 and has remained a mentor in his life'," Rev Zondi said.
Rev Zondi continued, "Mr Hamilton went on to say that he, 'found the last eleven and a half years an exciting and challenging period in his life and that there would never be another political home for him and his commitment remains steadfast and his resignation as Treasurer-General does not affect his membership and continued support for the IFP and its leadership and he wishes his friend Mr Singh every success in the challenges of his new post'."
Rev Zondi said, "Mr Hamilton in his post as Treasurer-General has ensured a solid financial base for the IFP to continue operating administratively and politically in tough financial circumstances where financial support and funding for opposition political parties has dwindled. He and his team had also ensured that we have the means to fight five past elections and bring our message across to voters and his contribution will be sorely missed."
