ANC-EFF-ActionSA mayoral committee bad news - Cilliers Brink

DA Tshwane CL says EFF's Obakeng Ramabodu is pushing for a purge of top professionals in metro

ANC-EFF-ActionSA mayoral committee bad news for good government

13 October 2024

The three seats which have been given to the EFF in mayor Nasiphi Moya’s mayoral committee in the City of Tshwane are bad news for clean administration and a pro-growth agenda.

The DA warned ActionSA and the ANC that their new coalition would give the balance of power in the capital city to the EFF, and this is exactly what has happened.

The EFF is a party of hate, violence, and chaos. Its national leadership is implicated in theft of money from VBS Bank.

One of the new EFF members of the Mayoral Committee is Obakeng Ramabodu, notorious for violent and racist outbursts on the floor of Tshwane’s city council.

Ramabodu has also declared his intention to remove several non-political senior managers in Tshwane, including the city manager Johann Mettler.

This will be in keeping with allegations made against the party for misgovernance in Gauteng’s other metros.

In Ekurhuleni, the ANC mayor even took the step of firing his EFF MMC for finance, which caused the EFF to retaliate against the ANC in Johannesburg by voting down a long-term loan.

The seeds of the same kind of chaos have now been sowed in Tshwane by the Gauteng ANC and ActionSA.

It is difficult to see how mayor Moya, a junior partner in her own coalition government, will constrain the forces that have caused so much chaos and decay in Gauteng.

It is significant that premier Panyaza Lesufi flanked Mayor Moya when she announced her mayoral committee, as if the premier was there in a supervisory role, much like he did with former mayor Kabelo Gwamande in Johannesburg.

The DA will work with parties that have opted not to join this coalition of chaos to protect the progress that has been made in Tshwane.

Later this month the DA will announce the team of councillors who will be responsible for holding the new ANC/EFF coalition to account.
