ANC YL PRESIDENT RESPONSE TO SONGEZO MJONGILE
We have read with utter disbelief the statements (published on the 9th August 2009 Sunday Times) attributed to Songezo Mjongile, responding to the ANC Youth League's process of conducting a due-diligence audit on Lembede Investment Holdings (see article).
The principle we have maintained in the process of conducting the due-diligence is that the process should not degenerate into a witch-hunt. This however did not make us blind to possible irregularities committed in Lembede Investment Holdings by its former Executives.
Our call for former Lembede Chief Executive Holdings, Songezo Mjongile to account is based on the reality that during his tenure as CEO, Mr. Mjongile oversaw many questionable transactions, which impacted negatively on the image of the Investment Holdings, and that of the ANC YL.
In our interaction with former leaders of the ANC YL who led during Mjongile's tenure as CEO, we have verified that he never presented an audited report to the ANC YL leadership. He instead was getting richer, most probably at the expense of the resources which could have otherwise been directed to the organisation and social responsibility tasks of the development trust.
We will not be reducing our open and honest process to mud-throwing, but will expect a detailed accountability on the whereabouts of Lembede's resources and assets, and Mr. Mjongile has a lot to answer. Mr. Mjongile should fully cooperate with the Auditors and give all information required on Lembede Investment Holdings.
