"Terror of dead chicken in a baby coffin!" - Daily Sun

"Shocked residents don't know what this means..." - front page lead, March 13 2015

Daily Sun (March 13 2015) - NOBODY WAS prepared to open the deathly white baby's coffin at the gate of the Kholeka house - so they called the cops.

Even the cops didn't want to touch it, so they stood at a distance and opened it with a metal hook.

IN THE COFFIN LAY A DEAD CHICKEN, COVERED IN BLOOD!

The chicken was also smeared with muthi and there were needles and
an ostrich feather in the casket. Rasmeni Kholeka (61) from Ezibeleni, Queenstown, Eastern Cape, said she was shocked when she was preparing for work on Wednesday morning and she heard neighbours calling her name outside.

"When I saw the brand new coffin at the gate I almost had a heart attack," she said.

"I didn't go to the coffin. I didn't want to touch it."

Neighbours decided to call the Ezibeleni police.

"The cops came and asked us what was inside the coffin. We told them we didn't even know where it came from and we didn't know what was inside," she said.

"So they made a hook with wire and pulled the lid off."

Rasmeni said when she saw what was inside the small white coffin, she screamed and ran away.

"I ran back into my house in fear," she said.

The cops took the coffin to Queenstown Police Station for fingerprinting, to try and solve the mystery.

Rasmeni said neighbours were just as shocked as she was.

"We only read about these things in the newspaper.

"We never thought it could happen to us," she said.

"I'm afraid because I don't know what this means.

"I'm not well and my blood pressure has shot up. I trust in God but I don't know how I will sleep at night."

Sangoma Makhosi Dumezweni said a male person, perhaps a sangoma, could have done this.

It's supposed to kill new life that comes into the family.

The coffin should not have been removed by the police because now the yard is cursed.

"They should do a cleansing immediately," he said.

Ezibeleni Commander Kenneth Ginya said the coffin was destroyed because no case was opened and no fingerprints were available.
