The new Gauteng cabinet - David Makhura

Premier appoints Panyaza Lesufi as MEC for Education and Jacob Mamabolo as MEC for Human Settlements and local govt

NEW GAUTENG CABINET TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING

Gauteng Premier, Mr. David Makhura, today announced his Executive Council (Exco) which has been described by analysts as a good mixture of experience and new energy.

Announcing Team Gauteng, Mr. Makhura expressed his confidence in the new Exco.

"We won't waste time in starting our work in communities. The cries of our communities have been heard and it will be answered. Service delivery will be the hallmark of the administration and I am confident about this team. The new MECs are capable and experienced," said Mr. Makhura.

Mr. Makhura added that a comprehensive programme of government will be tabled in due course.

The new Team Gauteng is comprised of the following:

1. Ms Barbara Creecy is the MEC for Finance

2. Mr. Panyaza Lesufi is the MEC for Education

3. Mr. Lebogang Maile is the MEC for Economic Development

4. Ms Nandi Mayathula-Khoza is the MEC for Infrastructure Development

5. Mr Jacob Mamabolo is the MEC for Human Settlements and Local Government

6. Ms Qedani Mahlangu is the MEC for Health

7. Ms Faith Mazibuko is the MEC for Agriculture, Environment, Rural Development and Social Development

8. Ms Molebatsi Bopape is the MEC for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture is

9. Mr Ismail Vadi is the MEC for Transport

10. Ms Sizakele Emelda Nkosi-Malobane is the MEC for Community Safety

"In addition to the appointment of the Members of the Executive Council, I have appointed: Mr Mxolisi Eric Xayiya, as the Special Advisor on service Delivery Interventions and Mr Mduduzi Mbada Special Advisor on Policy and Governance," said Mr. Makhura, adding that changing the lives of the people of Gauteng is his main concern.

Premier Makhura congratulated the Members of the Executive Council on their appointment.

BRIEF PROFILES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL OF THE GAUTENG PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT

1. Ms Barbara Creecy

Served in the United Democratic Front, she has also served as a Member of the Provincial Legislature since 1994, wherein she worked as Chairperson of Social Development, Education and Deputy Chief Whip. She has also served as the MEC for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture and Education.

2. Ms Nandi Mayathula-Khoza

Served in the student and women's movement and also served in Local Government as both Speaker and Member of the Mayoral Committee in the City of Joburg Metro Council. She holds a Bachelor of Science and is a qualified educator.

3. Ms Qedani Mahlangu

A former member of the NCOP, she served as the Chairperson of the Select Committee on Finance. She has also served as the MEC for Local Government, Health and Infrastructure Development. She holds an Honours Degree in Economics.

4. Mr Ismail Vadi

Served as a Member of Parliament between 1994 and 2010, wherein he was a Chairperson of the Communications Committee in Parliament and has served as the MEC for Transport. He holds a PhD in Political Science.

5. Mr Jacob Mamabolo

Served as a leader in the student and youth movement and is a former president of the South African Student Congress (SASCO). He holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration. He has also served in government at a senior level. He is the Provincial Secretary of the South African Communist Party in Gauteng. He holds a Master's degree in Public Administration.

6. Ms Faith Mazibuko

Served in the youth movement and has served in government as a member of the National Council of Provinces. She also served as MEC for Infrastructure Development and Community Safety.

7. Mr Lebogang Maile

Served in both the student and youth movement as the President of COSAS and Chairperson of the ANCYL in Gauteng. He has also served as the MEC for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture. He holds a certificate in Intergovernmental Relations and he is studying towards a Diploma in Public Relations.

8. Ms Molebatsi Frances Bopape

Served in the women's movement, she is a qualified nurse, with thirty years of experience. She has been a member of the provincial legislature since 1999, wherein she served in various portfolio committees. She has also served as the Chairperson of the Health Portfolio Committee.

9. Mr Andrek Panyaza Lesufi

Served in government in various positions, as the Special Advisor to the Minister of Basic Education, Head of Communications for Education, SCORPIONS, SAPS. He is studying towards a Master's Degree in Business Administration.

10. Ms Sizakele Emelda Nkosi-Malobane

Served in the student, trade union, youth and women movement. She has 15 years' experience of Local Government, wherein she served as a Member of the Mayoral Committee in the City of Johannesburg. She holds various certificates, including Local Government Policy Development and Conflict Management.
