ANC should only partner with pro-BEE parties – BBC

Council says it will not support a coalition that will take us back to the days of apartheid

The BBC position on elections results and coalitions

3 June 2024

The Black Business Council (BBC) applauds the Electoral Commission of South Africa on the execution of the 2024 general elections.

The BBC also congratulates all the political parties on mandates given to them by the electorates until 2029. The outcome of the elections reflects the will of the people and are a sign of a maturing democracy which should be respected and celebrated. The electorate did not give a single party a full mandate to govern South Africa but have indicated to the political parties that they should work together in the interest of the country.

The BBC appeals far cool heads and maturity during the various negotiations for possible coalition/s. All political parties should put the country first by prioritising stability, economic growth, creating jobs and accelerating socio-economic transformation.

As such, the BBC appeals to the party with most votes (the African National Congress) to ensure that it only seriously considers going into coalitions with parties that will fast-track the implementation of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment and Employment Equity in order to genuinely address the imbalances of the past. The BBC will not suppcrt any coalition that seeks to take us back to the days of Apartheid.
