SRC hopes to make arrogant management hear pleas and demands of black and poor students

EFFSC statement on campus shutdown

13 February 2023

Today, the EFFSC, Students Representative Council (SRC) and the student populous embarked on a shutdown on campus in hopes to make the arrogant management hear the pleas and demands of black and poor students.

We are deplored that each and every year students have to go in protest to display that they are poor and cannot be able to settle their debts before registration.

This is something that the University management knows very well and has deliberately opted to not put any measures to ensure that they assist students. It has intentionally left many students to sleep in lecture halls and libraries.

We want to applaud and commend all ground forces and students for coming out in numbers on the ground and we wish to call for many more students to support the call of the EFFSC, SRC, students and all sympathizers of this noble call.

Let us all come out in numbers tomorrow as we continue to demand:

- All fee blocks are to be uplifted before the commencement of the academic year.

- The registration period is to be re-opened for at least five days following the lifting of fee blocks and with no late penalties.

- All academically eligible students are to be provided with residential accommodation.

- Policy review in which fee blocks and all types of financial exclusion are to be done away with.

- All academic activities are to be halted till all students are registered.

The EFFSC will continue making these demands alongside all those who share the cause.

No retreat! No surrender!
