ANCYL MEDIA STATEMENT ON EQUALITY COURT MATTER REGARDING INDEPENDANT NEWSPAPER JOURNALIST

The ANCYL is aware that the Independant Newspaper journalist Carien du Plessis has approached the Equality Court to lodge a complaint against Cde Floyd Shivambu, the National Spokesperson of the ANCYL (see report).

The journalist alleges that she was called "stupid" and "white bitch" in private text meassages exchanged between the two of them. This is once again agitation through the media to spread lies against the leadership of the ANCYL.

The ANCYL is aware that such allegations are lies and false and confirmed that at no stage has Cde Floyd Shivambu sent her such text messages. Those who know Carien du Plessis will be aware of her tendencies and that the allegations that she apportions to Cde Floyd are indeed false and will soon be exposed.

We are aware that the case is sub judice and that facts will be presented to the Equality Court and hence, the ANCYL will not entertain the issue further until it it before the Equality Court.

The ANCYL remains firm in the resolve that it is not in the character or nature of a disciplined cadre of the ANCYL to behave in such a manner and we reject any attempt to harm the integrity of Cde Floyd Shivambu.
