The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Tshwane have expressed concern over the recent outbreak of confirmed cases of cholera in Hammanskraal, which has reportedly caused 10 deaths and affected well over 95 people. The EFF appeals to the community members to take extra precautionary measures and maintain proper hand hygiene to prevent the spread of this dangerous disease. Cholera is a bacterial infection that causes severe diarrhea and dehydration, and can be fatal if left untreated. It is usually spread through contaminated food or water, and can quickly become an epidemic if not properly contained.

The recent outbreak in Hammanskraal has been particularly severe, highlighting the need for increased awareness and preventative measures. EFF calls on local authorities to take immediate action to address the outbreak and ensure that affected individuals receive appropriate medical care. We have emphasized the importance of providing clean water and sanitation facilities, as well as promoting public education campaigns on proper hygiene practices. The EFF urge the community members to wash their hands regularly with soap and water, especially before eating or preparing food, and to avoid drinking untreated water or eating raw or undercooked seafood.

As South Africa continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important for communities to remain vigilant against other infectious diseases such as cholera. By taking simple steps such as washing hands regularly and avoiding contaminated food and water sources, we can help prevent the spread of illness and protect our communities.

Cholera is a bacterial infection that affects the small intestine and causes severe diarrhea and dehydration. It is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, which is usually found in contaminated water or food. Cholera can be fatal if left untreated, as it can cause rapid dehydration and electrolyte imbalances in the body.

Symptoms of cholera typically appear within a few days of infection and include watery diarrhea, vomiting, and muscle cramps. In severe cases, patients may also experience rapid heart rate, low blood pressure, and shock. Treatment for cholera usually involves rehydration therapy to replace lost fluids and electrolytes, as well as antibiotics to kill the bacteria.

Cholera outbreaks are most common in areas with poor sanitation and limited access to clean water. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are an estimated 1.3 to 4 million cases of cholera each year, resulting in 21 ,OOO to 143,000 deaths worldwide. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Tshwane have called upon the Democratic Alliance (DA) led administration to take accountability for poor service delivery in providing the people of Hammanskraal with clean water.

Hammanskraal, a township located north of Pretoria, has been plagued by water shortages and contamination issues for many years. Despite promises from local authorities to address the problem, residents continue to suffer from a lack of access to clean and safe drinking water. The DA-led administration has failed to prioritize the needs of Hammanskraal residents and has neglected its responsibility to provide basic services such as clean water. We call for immediate action to be taken to address the issue and ensure that residents have access to safe and reliable water sources.

The EFF calls the DA-led administration for its lack of transparency and accountability in addressing service delivery issues. Access to clean water is a basic human right, and it is unacceptable that residents of Hammanskraal continue to suffer from water shortages and contamination. The EFF's call for accountability and action is an important step towards addressing this critical issue and ensuring that all South Africans have access to safe and reliable drinking water.

The city has struggled with poor water management for several years, and many residents have reported receiving discoloured or foul-smelling water from their taps. This contaminated water supply has led to widespread illness in the community, with many people suffering from Gastroenteritis and other waterbome diseases. Tragically, some individuals have even died as a result of these illnesses. In recent years, there have been several reports of water contamination in Hammanskraal due to sewage leaks and other environmental factors. This has led to widespread health concems among residents, who are at risk of contracting water-borne illnesses such as cholera and typhoid fever.

The lack of access to clean water also has a significant impact on daily life in Hammanskraal.

Residents are forced to spend hours each day collecting water from distant sources or relying on expensive bottled water. This takes time away from work and other important activities, and places an undue burden on already vulnerable communities.

The EFF's call for accountability and action is an important step towards addressing this critical issue and ensuring that all South Africans have access to safe and reliable drinking water. The party has urged local authorities to prioritize the needs of Hammanskraal.
