City vindicated in opposing SANRAL's secrecy application

The City of Cape Town has been vindicated in its efforts to oppose SANRAL's secrecy application, intended to keep the public in the dark about their proposed tolling of the N1 and N2 freeways. Read more below:

This morning, 28 August 2014, Judge Ashley Binns-Ward of the Western Cape High Court dismissed SANRAL's and the Protea Parkway Consortium's (PPC) secrecy applications. This paves the way for the City to deliver its supplementary founding papers in accordance with the Rules of Court.

We will be carefully studying the judgment over the next few days in order to fully comprehend the ramifications thereof.

SANRAL has a period of seven business days to apply for leave to appeal, during which period the City will honour the undertaking given to SANRAL that it will not file its supplementary founding affidavit.

The High Court interdict granted to the City in May last year prevents SANRAL from continuing with their proposed tolling of the N1 and N2 until the finalisation of the City's review application.
