DA demands full public release of Lady R report
4 August 2023
Yesterday's revelation by Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya regarding President Cyril Ramaphosa's decision to selectively release sections of the Lady R report is deeply concerning.
This comes after the government made it clear that the entire report would not be made public, raising questions about transparency and accountability.
Despite the government's repeated claims that nothing illegal was loaded onto Lady R, their refusal to release the full report raises suspicions and fuels doubts about their intentions. It is imperative that they do not hide behind a cloak of secrecy, but instead provide clarity to the South African public and the international community.
The credibility of the report hinges on its complete publication. Even if released in its entirety, scepticism may persist if it conveniently fails to address critical aspects. The government's handling of this matter has been perceived as grossly incompetent, tarnishing the country's reputation.
