Grant's denials proves he should be fired

The ANC maintains Western Cape Education MEC Donald Grant's reaction to the exposé of three Kraaifontein schools that experience learner material shortages smacks of incompetence to deal with the reality. He should be fired for this scandal.

Grant's persistent denials of any problem in his department now clearly shows there is a much bigger underlying challenge to fully grasp what is at stake.

The ANC calls on the DA to give good reasons why Grant should stay in that portfolio, says Western Cape ANC leader Marius Fransman.

In the meantime, the DA continues to rely on the politics of deception with spin, lies, smoke and mirrors, while it gambles with the future of children.

Grant tries to deflect the attention from what learners did not get by citing what they got. This does not assist at all.

He only insults the very learners, parents, school governing board members, teachers, community leaders and various organisations that made known their frustration by not having the prescribed text and work books for the critical foundation phase of learning at the half way mark of the year.

Grant cried lies and politics when people of Grabouw made known their frustration with overcrowded schools. Two months later money was allocated and a school is under construction. Who was the liar here?

Grant wants to close down a number of schools because of dwindling numbers. One such school under threat is Lavis Drive Primary that had an increased enrolment figure. Who was the liar here?

Now Grant once more dismisses community concerns about a vital issue such as teaching aids. The teachers and parents testified to the problems with the shortage of books as well as non-delivery. Who is the liar here?

Grant should stop postulating and start to pack. He is an embarrassment to the Western Cape.
