Easing of restrictions good news for tourism – Dan Plato

Cape Town Mayor says extended trading times for businesses will assist in economic recovery

Mayor Dan Plato welcomes easing of restrictions to adjusted Alert Level 2

13 September 2021

'We note the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa to move the country to adjusted Alert Level 2, which further allows the economy to open as the national vaccination drive continues to be rolled out. The expanded trading times for businesses will assist in economic recovery as many businesses have been under severe strain, trying to adapt and survive in these very challenging circumstances. We have maintained that the only way to move beyond the pandemic and the national lockdown is to greatly expand the vaccination rollout. As seen in the statistics, those who are vaccinated experience greater protection against Covid-19, with significantly lower hospitalization and death,’ said Executive Mayor Dan Plato.

In Cape Town, we are continuing to play our part to assist with the ramping up of the national vaccine rollout after the opening of mass vaccination sites, with 3000 vaccination sites across the country.

The City of Cape Town urges all residents to please continue adhering to the regulations.

The amended regulations under adjusted Alert level 2 include:

While the need for curfew remains, it adjusts to between 23:00 until 04:00 daily. These are the revised regulations:

- Non-essential establishments such as restaurants, bars and gyms may now close at 22:00 to allow patrons and employees to travel home before curfew.

- Gatherings increased to 250 people indoors and 500 outdoors, or fifty percent of capacity in a smaller venue

- Alcohol sales on-site resume as per license conditions.

- The sale of alcohol from retail outlets for off-site consumption will be expanded to between 10:00 and 18:00 from Monday to Friday.

- Public spaces such as beaches will remain open

- Wearing a mask in public spaces remains compulsory under national lockdown regulations
