ANC MOURNS EIGHT LEARNERS KILLED IN BUS ACCIDENT

23 April 2013

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal conveys its deepest and heartfelt condolences to the relatives and friends of eight learners who died in a gruesome accident that also left scores of other learners injured in Ulundi last night.

Learners from Zamimpilo Special School in KwaCeza outside Ulundi were returning from a school trip in Richards Bay when the accident took place on the R66 between Ulundi and KwaCeza. According to the police report, four learners sustained critical injuries and 20 had minor injuries. It is believed the driver of a mini bus allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

The death of young people, who are the future of this country, is disturbing. We call on all drivers to drive carefully and make sure their vehicles are in good condition.  We hope the Department of Transport in the province and all relevant stakeholders will work together in investigating the cause of the accident.

Statement issued by Senzo Mkhize, ANC KwaZulu Natal provincial spokesperson, April 24 2013
