Lesufi extends closing date for comment on school regulations; continues his political games

The civil rights watchdog AfriForum heard that the Gauteng Department of Education under the leadership of MEC Panyaza Lesufi extended the closing date for parents’ comments on the newly-proposed school regulations to 14 September.

“Lesufi continues to play a political game at the expense of learners in the Gauteng educational system.  He tweeted this morning: ‘I declare, it will happen, a non racial [sic] quality education for all in our lifetime. You might have oppressed our grandparents and gave our parents gutter education and succeeded but you will never oppress our children and our children’s children and succeed, never! Aowa!’” says Carien Bloem, Project Coordinator for Education at AfriForum.

With this, he denies that there are no racial restrictions with regard to school admissions in Gauteng, while the most important reasons for poor education in dysfunctional schools include a lack of mother-tongue education, overflowing facilities, the ideological games of trade unions and the poor qualifications of teachers. “These are all factors that Lesufi should address as MEC for education and for which he cannot shift the blame to others.”
