Limpopo schools still without textbooks - Annette Lovemore

DA MP says continued problems are non-delivery, partial delivery and incorrect orders

Limpopo schools are still without textbooks

The Department of Basic Education was reported yesterday as saying that it had met its deadline to deliver textbooks to Limpopo schools.

"We met our deadline last night (Wednesday night) and all the books have left the warehouse," spokesperson Hope Mokgatlhe was reported as saying.

On Wednesday 27 June, the DA monitored the state of textbook delivery to schools in Limpopo throughout the day.

We found 129 schools in Limpopo that did not receive any books, received the wrong books or didn't receive enough books by the court-ordered deadline of 15 June. This number was from a sample and the list can be found here.

In addition, a DA investigation this morning confirms that schools in Limpopo are still waiting for their books.

The DA has this morning established that schools that are still without textbooks include:

  • Pietersburg English Medium Primary
  • Pietersburg Hoërskool Principal
  • Laerskool Pietersburg Noord
  • Flora Park Comprehensive High School
  • Tom Naude High School
  • Laerskool Ivy School
  • Bokamoso Secondary School

Problems reported by these schools include non-delivery of all textbooks, partial delivery of some textbooks, and incorrect orders being delivered.

The lack of correct maths textbooks has been a widely-reported concern.

Despite the department's repeated promises, the learners of Limpopo are still waiting.
