SABC BOARD ANNOUNCES MR. PHIL MOLEFE AS NEW ACTING GCEO

Johannesburg, Friday, 01 July 2011 - The South African Broadcasting Corporation's (SABC) Board announced today, the appointment of Mr. Phil Molefe, as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the corporation.

This appointment will be in force until the finalization of the process of appointing a permanent GCEO. Mr. Robin Nicolson's contract as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) expired yesterday, 30 June 2011.  

We wish to express our gratitude to Mr. Nicholson, for the service he has rendered to the corporation and wish him well in his future endeavors.

MIKE SILUMA TO ACT AS GE: NEWS AND CURRENT AFFIARS

Johannesburg, Friday, 01 July 2011 - Following the appointment of Mr. Phil Molefe as Acting Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) today, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), has appointed Mr. Mike Siluma as the Acting Group Executive: News and Current Affairs.

Mr. Siluma is currently the Head of Radio News and Current Affairs. The SABC wishes Mr. Siluma all the best as he executes his new duties.

MR. PHIL MOLEFE PROFILE

A veteran of both print and electronic media, Mr. Phil Molefe has been a journalist for 30 years, working for several South African publications, including SASPU National, Weekly Mail and The Star. He studied journalism at the distinguished Editorial Centre at the University of Wales. He is also a fellow of the respected Thompson Foundation in the United Kingdom.  

He has held several senior editorial positions in the SABC, including Head of Television News and Head:  SABC Africa.

He also held the position of General Manager: International Affairs. In this capacity, he was responsible for developing and maintaining sound relationships between the SABC and its international stakeholders both at multilateral and bilateral levels.

Mr. Molefe holds a Post-graduate diploma in Management from the University of the Witwatersrand's Business School. He is currently studying towards a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Wits Business School.

He is the Vice-President of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA) and has also served as the Member of the Executive Council of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB).

He is held in high esteem in the broadcasting industry in Africa and globally.
