Residents reject EFF’s failed shutdown – DA WCape

Western Cape residents reject EFF’s failed shutdown

3 October 2023

The DA in the Western Cape is immensely grateful to the vast majority of Western Cape residents for totally rejecting the attempts of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to shut the province down.

Yesterday’s protest centred around Jakes Gerwel Drive, with approximately 200 people joining the EFF’s march. Despite having been referred to as a “shutdown” by the party in communications ahead of time, the march took place with minimal disruption to traffic and daily life in the area.

DA Western Cape Spokesperson on Community Safety Gillion Bosman said: “The EFF’s protest was a dismal failure with approximately 200 people joining their march. Residents of the province can be proud for dismissing this party and its well-known violent and lawless tendencies. Our residents clearly showed that they want to work and ensure our economy continues to grow, so that more job opportunities can be created. This ensures greater dignity, and an environment where individuals, families and groups are able to thrive.”

“We thank all stakeholders for ensuring that the march concluded peacefully, and did not result in violence. While the DA stands for the right to peacefully protest, our party also stands for the rule of law, and constructive dialogue in our nation.”
