Rob Davies promises to fix CIPRO

Minister says he is considering forensic investigation report into troubled institution

Davies determined to fix Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office (CIPRO), March 23 2010

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, says that he will leave no stone unturned in dealing with various allegations that have been facing the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office.

He said this after receiving a forensic investigation report from the independent investigation firm that was commissioned to probe the organisation, CIPRO. The investigation covered, amongst others the allegations of fraud and irregularities, including the electronic content management tender.

Minister Davies stated that he will make a pronouncement on the findings of the investigation in due course, as he is currently considering the report.

"Upon assessment of the report, I will announce the course of action to be taken and will also refer any matters that may require criminal prosecution to the relevant enforcement agencies," he added.

He further indicated that the South African Police Services (SAPS) is still continuing with the investigation into other aspects of fraud and those found guilty of any wrong doing will have to face the law.

Lastly, Minister Davies would like to thank all individuals in and out of CIPRO and the Department of Trade and Industry for their cooperation during the investigation.
