"Twasa: My gobela hell!" - Daily Sun

Daily Sun (June 13 2014) - THE SPIRITS inside her are so strong they made her drop out of law school to twasa.

But her training has been a disaster! She has tried eight times and she has spent R400 000 of her inheritance . . . but all for nothing!

TODAY SHE IS NO CLOSER TO BEING A SANGOMA THAN FIVE YEARS AGO.

"Eight gobelas have taken my money and then dropped me without finishing the process," complained Msa Nkonjane (34), an unemployed widow from Roodepoort, west of Joburg.

"I have wasted R400 000 of the money from my late husband's will on gobelas - for nothing."

Msa inherited about R3 million from her husband after he died in a swimming pool accident.

The former law student told Daily Sun she had to stop studying because the spirits blinded and confused her during exams.

That is when her ordeal with the gobelas started.

"I spoke to them and they all said I had problems at school because the spirits were calling me. The gobelas all said they could help me.

"Now I have been trained by gobelas from as far away as the Eastern Cape and Mozambique," she said. The pattern is always the same: she goes to a gobela and pays a large fee. Then she is told to spend money on food and groceries for the gobela as well as for rituals. This goes on for from three months to a year - and then the gobelas dump her.

Msa said she has three different spirits in her.

"Sometimes I dream that I am being given instructions while I am under water.

"At other times I dream I am in a nest with snakes all over me," she said.

Msa still wants to be a sangoma and complete her training so that she can stop getting sick and having bad dreams.

"I have aggressive heart palpitations, cramps and headaches," she said.

On top of her illness, Msa now fears that her last gobela, Mojaji Chauke (63), is going to punish her.

"Before I left, she told me that one lady tried to leave her to go to a church, and she died when she slipped and fell," said Msa.

She alleged that on the day she left Mojaji's house, she nearly died at the hands of her gobela.

"On the day I left her house I started to get heart palpitations and she mixed the wrong remedy for me in front of everyone.

"I was about 30 minutes away when suddenly I could not breathe. People had to rush me back to her house," said Msa.

Msa left Mojaji's house after living there for a year.

Mojaji denied trying to endanger Msa's life.

"Why would I hurt her? There is no reason for me to do anything bad to her," she said. "I have been a sangoma since the age of 13 and I know what I'm doing.

"Her ceremony was not completed because she left in the middle of the process for her own reasons."

Msa said she was supposed to train for three months, but "I was there for a year and there was no progress, so I left".
