KZN Premier meets with officers over Intaka scandal

KWAZULU-NATAL PREMIER DR ZWELI MKHIZE PLEDGES HIS FULL CO OPERATION WITH THE HAWKS

The Premier of the Province of KwaZulu-Natal Dr Zweli Mkhize had a fruitful meeting with senior members of the Hawks this morning, 9 September 2010, concerning the investigations into the alleged corruption surrounding the procurement of equipment from Intaka.

Premier was interviewed in his capacity as former political head of the department in which the investigation is being conducted and hence a potential witness. The Hawks stated, categorically, that the Premier was not a suspect.

The Premier emphasized his commitment to fight corruption in the Provincial Government and offered his full co-operation with the investigation. To this end he has agreed to make a statement concerning his knowledge of the matter when he was the MEC for Finance and Economic Development.

The Hawks were shown the numerous questions that had been referred to the Premier by various media houses for his comment.

The Hawks have requested that the Premier refrains from giving detailed statements to the media as such may compromise their investigations which are now at a sensitive stage.

The Premier understood the background to the request and in the circumstances has agreed to it and hence he will not answer the questions as raised by the media. He will respond to all questions once the Court processes have been finalized.

The premier has called on all those who may be approached in the cause of the investigation to co operate with the investigation.
