Daily Sun (October 8 2013) - A FATHER took his son to eat and drink Zulu beer at a relative's house. But he did not want his son to sit with him and the elders. SO HIS SON BEAT HIM TO DEATH!
The father of four, from Thathane Village at Highflats, KZN south coast, was killed at his house on Saturday night. A relative who asked to not be named said the man and his son had too much to drink. "He was upset that his son wanted to drink with the family elders. He told him to go drink with the other youngsters. He was a traditional man who was very strict on respect. He felt it was disrespectful of his son to want to drink with them, as he would end up commenting on their discussions," said the relative.
When he told his son he was not allowed to drink with them, the son got got angry and swore at him. "They got into a fight and the elders broke it up. The angry son rushed out," said the relative. When Daily Sun visited the family, his daughter said: "We have not even told some of our relatives the truth about my father's death. I do not want to discuss this with you," she said.
A neighbour said he went to ask Themba for a cigarette, and found him lying on the rondavel floor with his nose bleeding. Induna Mduduzi Mbanjwa said: "This is shocking and embarrassing. Even in the olden days, in our culture, young men drank separately from their elders."
Captain Thulani Zwane said: "A suspect was arrested and he was charged with murder. He will appear in the Phungashe Magistrates Court on 10 October."
