"Only Zombies live here!" - Daily Sun

The front page and lead story of SA's largest daily newspaper, July 23 2013

Daily Sun (July 23 2013) -  THE COUPLE were warned that evil spirits were hiding behind the locked door. But they didn't listen. . . they opened the door.

AND SOON, LIVING IN THEIR DREAM HOUSE TURNED INTO A NIGHTMARE!

Vusi Ngwenya (36) and his wife Caroline (36) wanted a special house in which to raise their three children. From the moment they saw the house in Barcelona, Daveyton, east of Joburg, they loved it. They met with the old woman who was selling her late mother's house and paid the R120 000 asking price without argument. They moved into the house in October last year.

They spent another R80 000 on renovations to make it exactly the way they wanted it . . . and then the trouble started. Their house turned out to be a haunted house. The terrified couple would lie in bed listening to the frightening noises of doors slamming and banging on the closed door.

There were sounds of footsteps and people running around and fighting and hitting each other with chairs, even the rhythmic sounds of dancing feet. Caroline said the ghost approaches as if he is her husband. "It likes women and it sleeps with men as well," she said.

"When I woke up in the morning I felt as if I had slept with someone. My husband felt the same way." Caroline told Daily Sun when they spoke to neighbours, they said the owner of the house was an evil woman and the tenants had all run away.

"They told us they didn't want to go near the house - not even during the day!" she said. "After we paid for the house, the woman told us we must not open the bedroom door - but she didn't say why," said Caroline.

"Neighbours said the gogo had six kids - five boys and one girl - but the boys died one after the other. Only the girl was left behind," said Caroline. "She is the one who sold us the house." Caroline said she has taken her children to her parents' house. "But last Tuesday I couldn't stay there any more either. I left in the early hours of the morning," she said.

When Daily Sun went to the house with Caroline, she refused to get out of the car. A former tenant told Daily Sun that her four-year-old daughter would walk to the haunted room at night and bang on the door. Another former tenant said she often felt as if she was being strangled.

When Daily Sun contacted the seller of the house, she confirmed that her siblings had all died. "I told them not to open the door. That was my mother's bedroom," she said. Traditional healer Daniel Mkhwanazi said the gogo probably killed her children and turned them into zombies and they keep coming back. "The family should contact me so that I can help them," he said.
