"Furious father of raped kid tells Daily Sun... I'll be the next serial killer!" - Daily Sun

The front page and lead story of SA's largest daily newspaper, May 17 2013

Daily Sun (May 17 2013) - IT BEGAN with a chilling telephone message left on the telephone at Daily Sun's Tshwane offices. The angry father of a six-year-old girl told us his little daughter was raped at her creche last Friday. AND HE COULDN'T OPEN A CASE!

He left this shocking message: "So I will be the next serial killer, I will kill them all. I am a fuckin security officer, the professional one. I am a professional security officer, not a fong-kong one. So I am telling you; note it down - I will be a serial killer." When Daily Sun rushed to speak to the 33-year-old Armed Response guard, he revealed how the rape was discovered.

His wife, who works at a retail store, picked up the little girl and her one-year-old brother from the creche. When the girl took off her clothes that evening, there was blood on her panties and jeans. She told her mother that the creche owner's 20-year-old son had bo stoutu (penetrated) her from behind.

The 24-year-old mother alerted the father who was on night shift in Irene and then raced to a local clinic where the little girl was referred to Mamelodi Hospital. But the doctor on duty was unable to spot signs of rape!

On the Saturday morning, the couple went to confront the creche owner, who told them that their child was kicked by a three-year old girl. The mother of the girl was just arriving and called the father, who offered to pay medical bills if his daughter had indeed done so. But then the father of the six-year-old showed him the bloody panties and jeans and they decided to call the cops.

Police were told the same story by the creche, but were then told a different story, saying that the child had urinated blood. The outraged father told the People's Paper they went to the police station to open a case: "But the policeman taking our statement told us that it was just an enquiry even though I had the jeans and the panties with the blood on," he said. "I'm so disappointed in the justice system in South Africa."

On Sunday the parents called Childline and were promised that their legal department would contact them, but by Wednesday the family was still waiting. On Monday they went to a social worker. She said they needed a J88 form before they could be helped. This is the document from police on which medical staff have to describe injuries.

On Tuesday the father went back to the hospital to get a second opinion - and that was when a doctor found that his child had been sodomised. That doctor sent the girl's underwear and jeans to the lab for testing. On Wednesday the father contacted Daily Sun. That same evening, the SunTeam accompanied the father to the police station and this time he was helped immediately.

The father left the police station with a case number and praise for the People's Paper. He said if it wasn't for Daily Sun the case would still not be open. "I would have killed many people. I would have become a serial killer," he said.
