Daily Sun (March 9 2015) - WHEN the control room tried to contact the guards on patrol, they heard only a deathly silence.
Back-up guards raced to the scene but arrived too late.
THE TWO MEN WERE FOUND IN THEIR VEHICLE, WHERE THEY HAD BEEN SHOT TO DEATH.
The drama started at about 1am on Saturday morning when security guards Moitsiemang Moamogwa (41) and Mxolisi Ngubane (32) were patrolling for City Power in Ennerdale, Joburg.
"Our control room received a call asking for back-up after the guards came across a group of men digging up electric cables," said Tumelo Mamadi, director of Mafoko Security in Joburg.
She said they sent back-up officers who searched the area for about an hour but the izinyoka had melted into the darkness.
"The back-up vehicle then left and Moitsiemang and Mxolisi were left behind to continue their patrol," she said. Nobody knows what happened then because when the control room tried to contact the men at about 3am, there was no response.
The back-up vehicle was sent again, and these officers found that the guards had been shot dead while sitting in their vehicle. Mamadi said that none of their belongings were taken but Moitsiemang's rifle was gone. "It was a terrible scene," said Mamadi. "The men were sitting in the vehicle. There was
blood everywhere. The car had many bullet holes."
She said Moitsiemang and Mxolisi were like her children. "They were friendly, determined and loyal. We always joked around together," she said. "I am heartbroken that they had to die in such a gruesome way."
She said the company would pay for the funeral costs and were offering a reward of R100 000 to anyone who had information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Sophie Moamogwa (46) told the People's Paper that her brother Moitsiemang meant everything to her.
"It is a terrible loss. He was my brother, my friend and my father all in one," said the tearful woman.
"There's so much I could say about him but I am lost for words."
Thokozani Ngubane (59) said her son Mxolisi was a happy person. "He was too young to die. The pain that I am feeling is unbearable. He was never disrespectful to me in any way. I will miss him," she said.
Lieutenant Kay Makhubela, the police provincial spokesman, said: "A case of murder has been opened at Ennerdale Police Station. The two men were declared dead at the scene."
He said no suspects had been arrested yet. "If anyone has information about the suspects and their whereabouts they can contact SAPS on 08600 10111 or SMS 32211."
