"Madiba's daughter slams media!" - Daily Sun

The front page and lead story of SA's largest daily newspaper, June 30 2013

Daily Sun (June 30 2013) - VULTURES waiting for the buffalo carcass! That was how Makaziwe Mandela described the foreign media fever surrounding her ailing father yesterday. THEY VIOLATE ALL BOUNDARIES, SHE SAID.

"The fact that my dad is a global icon, one of the 25 most influential people of the 20th century, does not mean that people cannot respect the privacy and dignity of my dad. And I don't want to say this, but I am going to say it: there is sort of a racist element with many of the foreign media where they just cross boundaries."

"It's truly like vultures waiting, when the lion has devoured the buffalo, waiting there for the last carcass," Makaziwe told the SABC in an interview....

In the TV interview, Makaziwe, Madiba's eldest surviving daughter, said "anything is imminent". She said: "He doesn't look good. I mean, I'm not going to lie but I think that for us, as his children and grandchildren we still have this hope, because you know when we talk to him he will flutter, trying to open his eyes, and he'll open his eyes.

"When you touch him he still responds and I think for us as his progeny, as long as Tata is still responding when we talk to him, when we touch him, I think that gives us hope." And she added: "As long as he's still there, we want to give him the positive support, the positive energy." But she said the world must respect Madiba according to African culture.

"I know, as an African, at this time you have to be at peace and be quiet. I don't know how people come here and just violate everything in the book," she fumed. "We don't mind the interest. It has just gone overboard."...
