"Mum's last words!" - Daily Sun

"I want to finish myself, she wrote in this suicide note" - front page lead, August 19 2015

Daily Sun (August 19 2015) - BEFORE TAKING her life, Dineo wrote a note leaving instructions for the care of her two-year-old daughter.

She also said she couldn’t stand seeing her boyfriend again, that she had tried but life had become too much for her.

KE LEKILE HO LEKANE, SHE WROTE.

“I am tired of Lebohang and I can’t take it anymore! I want to end my life before he finishes me!” said Dineo Motapanyane (21) from Dark City hostel  in Bochabela, Mangaung in the note she left before hanging herself with her scarf on Sunday afternoon.

Now Dineo’s family blaming the boyfriend for the death of their daughter. They claim his abusive ways led to Dineo killing herself.

Dineo’s sister Mamalatsi (25) said she saw Lebohang with a different girl every day when Dineo was in Lesotho.

“My sister killed herself after Lebohang abused her emotionally. He also kept the child grant card away from Dineo,” claimed Mamalatsi. “That is why she asked our brother Twebele to take care of the girl. The child will grow up without a mother.”

But Lebohang Kota (25), the boyfriend and father of the child, denied being abusive. He said she was about to get caught cheating and that is why she took her own life.  “I had Dineo’s phone and she wanted it back. I told her that she would get it soon,” he said.

He said she went to their shack in the backyard when her phone rang. “I answered and a man who identified himself as William asked to speak with my girlfriend. I immediately worked out that Dineo was cheating on me and I was about to confront her when I found her dead,” he said.

Twebele Motapanyane (32) said he will honour Dineo’s final wishes and take care of the child. Police spokeswoman Constable Joy Xaba confirmed the incident and said Mangaung police have registered an inquest.

Dineo’s note translated into English reads: Mamalatsi my sister, I can’t take it anymore. Please tell Twebele to take care of the girl so that she does not suffer. I have heard enough of Lebohang. I want to finish myself before he finishes me.

“I have cried and it’s enough. Please look after the child. I have tried and it’s enough.”
