"Woolly preachers saved! Cops stop crowd from stoning strange ‘messengers of God'" - Daily Sun

The front page and lead story of SA's largest daily newspaper, May 31 2013

Daily Sun (May 31 2013)- THEY had come to teach the people the Word of God. But their strange, woolly clothes scared the people on the street so badly that their message was lost. A RESIDENT HAD TO SAVE THEM FROM BEING STONED AS FALSE PROPHETS.

The man and the woman were seen preaching on the streets of extension 28 in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni. They were dressed in strange clothes that appeared to be home-made and stood barefoot at the corner when the crowd began to gather round them . . . but not to listen to their message. To silence them.

The strange pair never looked worried. Calmly, the man quoted John 8 verse 7. "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone," he said. No one knows what would have happened if a resident had not taken the pair into his house. When the People's Paper arrived they found an angry crowd on the street.

"These people are going to poison our children with their strange religion," a resident told Daily Sun. When Daily Sun went into the house, the man and woman were sitting peacefully on the couch. They identified themselves as Bhekani Mvubu (40) and Mokgometsi Mothibi (30). They said they were messengers from God.

Bhekani said God had told them to leave the mountains of KZN to come to the city and warn people that the world was going to end soon. "We want the people to repent of their sins before it's too late," said Bhekani.

When asked if they were not scared that the crowd was going to attack them, Bhekani said: "We were spreading the gospel so we know God was going to protect us." He said even Jesus was attacked for speaking the truth.

"All we want is for people to change and start seeking the words of the Lord," he said. "Even if they stoned us we would have forgiven them just the way Jesus did when he forgave those who crucified him."

Mokgometsi, who was born in the North West, said woman must stop wearing trousers. "Only men are allowed to wear trousers. That's the message from God."
