Daily Sun (May 14 2013) - CHIEFS fan Ofentse was jumping up and down with joy when his team scored a goal. But in his excitement, he made the mistake of bumping into an off-duty cop in a crowded tavern . . . AND ONLY HOURS LATER, OFENTSE WAS DEAD - FOR STANDING ON THE WRONG FOOT!
A sergeant from the Protea Glen cop shop in Soweto was taken into custody by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, charged with the murder of Ofentse Khunou (29) from Protea. Witnesses at the tavern told Daily Sun the trouble started when Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite scored an equalising goal in the second half of their match against Ajax, played on Workers' Day.
Ofentse, a fanatic Chiefs fan, was very happy and he was jumping up and down in celebration - but that's when he stood on the cop's foot. Many people were at the tavern to watch Ajax win 3-1. Witnesses said Ofentse told the cop he was very sorry about standing on his foot but the sergeant wasn't satisfied with his apology. Ofentse went to the toilet and when he came back the cop was still fuming. He allegedly grabbed him by the neck and slapped him. To defend himself, Ofentse swung a beer bottle at the cop, hitting him on the head. The cop left, saying he was going to open a case....
