Family hears missing Siphiwe knocking on the door at midnight – front page lead, August 11 2015

Daily Sun (August 11 2015) - IT’S BEEN more than a month since Siphiwe’s family last saw him alive, and they are hoping he will still come home.

Since he disappeared there is knocking at the door and the sound of somebody trying to come in.

BUT WHEN THEY GO TO OPEN THE DOOR, THERE IS NO ONE THERE.

“It has happened more than three times and we are too scared to sleep,” said Noxolo Nguze (23), the sister of Siphiwe Nguze (19), who disappeared after looking for work at a motor mechanic’s workshop in Barcelona, Etwatwa, Gauteng. “The knocking comes between midnight and 2am in the morning,” Noxolo told Daily Sun. “We hear somebody trying to open the door and we hear footsteps, but when we investigate there is nobody.”

Daily Sun ran the story of Siphiwe, who went to look for a job at the workshop last month, but was allegedly kidnapped after being accused of stealing engine parts. The mechanic who owned the business was arrested and the residents torched his house, accusing him of kidnapping Siphiwe.

Noxolo said they went to a sangoma who told them the person who’s knocking on the door is Siphiwe, because he wants his spirit to be recovered. “He said he was buried in a shallow grave with his head facing east and his body covered in dark soil.”

Last Friday the residents of Etwatwa went out in search of Siphiwe after the sangoma made the announcement. Armed with shovels and picks, residents went around looking for dark soil to dig in but they could find nothing.

The residents told Daily Sun the area has rocks under the ground and the cops must bring sniffer dogs to look for the body.

Captain Pearl Van Staad of Etwatwa police said the family need to make a formal request for police to accompany them to the alleged spot and also to inform the investigating officer.
