Our performance was not up to scratch - COPE Limpopo

CPC says many of its supporters are nonetheless eager to continue

Statement by Limpopo Provincial Chairperson, Cde Patrick Sikhutshi on Election Results 2014

Congress Provincial Committee (CPC) of the Congress of the People in Limpopo met on Sunday, 11 May 2014, to review the outcome of the National and Provincial Election results. This has been one election that will never be erased in the history of South African politics as it sets a new record that was never expected. Our performance was not up to scratch due to the challenges that we experienced inside and outside the organisation. We are now at the drawing board to analyze and eliminate all the challenges that hampered our work.

We lost our position as the Official Opposition in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature as well as three seats. We are now remaining with one seat. Many of our supporters are still eager to continue with us despite the challenges we faced. This is an encouraging sign of determination and good will.

We thank those who went out to vote in particular those that voted for us. We are making a call for those who did register to vote and those who did not go to vote, to consider their actions as it is not helping to promote our democracy. There are about 6 million voters who stayed away for various reasons. If these voters went out to vote for the opposition parties, ruling party would have lost seats in various legislatures.

Well done to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for doing a sterling job. We hope you will continue to do better and close smaller loop holes that might compromise your work in the future.
