UKZN extends academic year

26 October 2016

Durban – The University of KwaZulu-Natal has extended its academic calendar by almost four weeks to allow students to complete the year, following the recent surge of student protests.

Lectures would end on November 24, followed by a study week. Exams would begin on November 30. Supplementary exams had been deferred to January 2017, spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka said.

The protests had led to the loss of valuable teaching time and had delayed the academic schedule.

A task team had drawn up a schedule that would enable students to complete all lectures, tutorials, tests, and seminars before the end of 2016.

University management approved the new timetable.
