Zuma must make public his Nkandla tax records
8 July 2016
I have today written to President Jacob Zuma calling on him to give written consent to the South African Revenue Services (SARS) to make public the information regarding his tax matters in relation to the Nkandla Project - specifically the information regarding the R63.9 million in fringe benefit taxes that he is liable for.
Following the DA’s announcement yesterday calling on President Zuma to pay the R63.9 million in fringe benefits tax he accrued from the luxury upgrades at Nkandla, Presidency spokesperson Bongani Majola stated that Zuma’s taxation affairs were "regular and in order” and that he [Zuma] is “fully compliant with the laws and regulations as administered by the South African Revenue Services”.
While the South African public would love to be able to believe the President and take his word for it, unfortunately his long and dubious track record of alleged fraud and corruption necessitates proof be provided. It is absolutely vital that President Zuma allows SARS to release his Nkandla tax record so that South Africa can get answers as to how much Zuma still owes us in relation to Nkandla.
If the President has nothing to hide, then he should have no problem is allowing the disclosure of his Nkandla tax records.
