"Beast ripped off my Cindy's lips!" - Daily Sun

"'We heard her scream for help as she fought in her dreams'" - front page lead, January 28 2015

Daily Sun (January 28 2015) - IN the early hours of yesterday morning the family heard Cindy's terrifying screams.

When they ran to her room they found blood all over her bed and on the floor.

CINDY'S FACE WAS ALSO COVERED IN BLOOD . . . AND HER LIPS HAD BEEN RIPPED OFF.

Speaking to Daily Sun, the elder of the family, Michael Mthombeni (64) from Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, said he got a phone call from Cindy's mother in the early hours of yesterday morning. He was told his granddaughter had been attacked in her sleep.

"What kind of evil would do something like this to my granddaughter?" asked the madala, close to tears.

He said he couldn't believe it until he saw Cindy in a car at his house.

"They were taking her to hospital. Her face was covered with a piece of cloth and she was crying in pain. I tried to greet her but she couldn't talk to me," he said.

"Her mother told me she had no lips. She said Cindy dreamt she was being attacked by wild dogs."

Michael said Cindy mum's told him that they were asleep when they heard her screaming. He said the family was confused and scared.

When they rushed to her bedroom, she told them that she had a fierce fight with wild dogs which ripped off her lips.

"I'm shocked. I have heard of people having bad dreams but this is terrible. We are grateful she overpowered the beasts," he said.

Michael said Cindy was rushed to Pholosong Hospital to be treated. When she arrived there, doctors asked Cindy for her lips but she couldn't find them. He said the family are Christians and they believe God protected Cindy.

"But what if these beasts return and the evil wins the battle?" he asked.

Michael said the family will see a sangoma to get to the bottom of what happened in what they call their night of horror.

Cindy's cousin Nokuzula Mthombeni (24) said she hasn't seen Cindy. "But from what they told me it was terrible."

The Sun Team tried to trace Cindy at the hospital but one of the nurses said she had been discharged.

Sangoma Nsimbi e'dlezinye Ngema said wild dogs in a dream are the sign of a curse. The family will need to consult a strong sangoma to cleanse the house.
